The star has given the entirety of his £25,000 award prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

He was presented with the award on mid-October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous small stages across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted financial assistance in upgrading amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

Fender is among several artists to contribute his Mercury Prize prize money to good deeds.

Back when they won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album the album, frontman the singer announced that the act would give their winnings to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her prize across a few organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a £1,000 to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," the artist shared with outlets.

Previously, the band contributed their funds to the local youth club that supported their band, as well as other local music groups.

And winners that year the group donated their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked artist Heather Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had rescued several local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in the city and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
