Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
